The district of Kalutara is vast, giving tourists all the more reason to flock here. So, it is not just the amazing sandy beaches that are alluring about Kalutara, other attractions such as the Thudugala Ella Falls too contribute to the picture.
Location
The route to the waterfall begins from Katukurunda junction through Mathugama road to Thudugala junction. One of the most beautiful places in Kalutara, the Thudugala Estate. There are several hotels such as Anantara Kalutara Resort for lodging options too!
The old building
The estate was owned by the British who dominated Sri Lanka long time ago. A bungalow from that era can still be seen on the path towards the waterfall. Although, it can’t be said that the structure is in mint condition. Instead, most of it lay there crumpled on the ground. Nevertheless, the sight is still fascinating.
For the nature lover
Walking towards the waterfall, nature lovers will be able to spot many lovely plants such as Ketala plants and giant pus creepers. There are several species of beautiful birds that peek from between the leaves of lush trees to say hello, the Yellow Magta and Dicaeum Erythornynchos are 2 common species spotted here.

The waterfall
What is most queer about this waterfall is that there is a tunnel that runs underneath the falls, this tunnel ends at the top of the falls. It is a common bathing spot as well. For more interesting facts on the falls, visit sites like Travel Kalutara.
