Fa Hien Caves
Located to the west of Kalutara, and 400 metres above sea level, this is an archaeological site with great historical significance; it is regarded as one of the oldest human settlements discovered in south-east Asia. According to legends, this site was discovered by a Buddhist monk named Faxien, hence the name.
Asokaramaya Temple
Located near the western border of the city of Kalutara, the Asokaramaya Temple is a divine place of worship frequented by Buddhists living around the country. Richmond Castle
Richmond Castle is an Edwardian mansion built as a country seat for Mudaliyar Don Arthur de Silva Wijesinghe Siriwardena between 1900 and 1910. Today, the building is owned and maintained by a public trustee and it is open to visitors.
