When to Go

When planning your trip to Kalutara, Sri Lanka keep in mind that the best time to visit the south coast where this city is located is generally from December to March. Though the southwest monsoon does bring rains from May to September there will be days with plenty of sunshine too.

What to Pack

Since the average temperature in Kalutara during the dry season is between 30.6°C and 32.1°C, it’s best to pack light cotton clothing. Apart from swimwear, pack shorts, t-shirts, skirts, sandals and slippers, while sunglasses, sunscreen and sunhats will come in handy too. Do note, when going to religious sites you need to dress conservatively and cover bare shoulders and legs.

 

What to See & Do

Since it’s a coastal destination you can enjoy lots of water sports such as snorkelling, jet skiing, stand-up paddleboarding and windsurfing. Popular attractions in Kalutara include the Kalutara Chaitya and Bodhiya and Richmond Castle, while fishing, river cruises and bike tours are amongst the activities on offer too.
